How to Get 1 Million Hits on Your Blog

Achieving hits for your blog isn’t an easy task, but when you do it correctly, it is very satisfying and rewarding to know people frequently pass through and come to your blog. Here are some ways to increase your traffic and as I understand it, there is no reason to think you can’t become one of the most popular bloggers around.

1. Blog Topic

The topic of your blog is really crucial. If you’re hoping to attract lots of readers, you should consider where you are going to find readers. If you’re posting about cracks in your walls, then you’ll need to know where to locate people who would like reading about them! Otherwise you are doomed.

2. Search Engine Friendliness

It is essential to engage with Google like a fine looking woman at the dance.

Much as we would like for a regular readership finding your blog on authoritative websites is where many people who read your blog will be coming from. Google is the Internet it’s just a matter of having to be willing to accept it. It is every Political bloggers dream to be at the top of the list of results when people type in “Politics Blog” into Google. If someone types in “Random political blog from some unknown wannabe in the North East of England” I hope my blog will come up. If someone is interested in your blog’s content, it’s a good idea for them to go to your site. Use clever techniques to boost your rankings on search engines is crucial but you must also follow the rules otherwise your blog’s popularity are likely to be affected. In the right or wrong way, Google does hold that level of influence, and websites have to meet their requirements.

To accomplish this, you have to put your keywords in the article and not more than two percent of your words. The keywords for my blog are such as “Labour, Politics, Political blog” and so on. This is a bad example. “This article is intended for bloggers to increase hits’. It is best to modify the words a bit to make it more specific. So… ‘This posting is designed for anyone asking”How do I get my blog to rank higher in search engines? “How do I get hits to my blog?” The search engines are able to match the exact phrase to the search phrase and that gets you higher in the ranks. And when they see the post match’s what they’re looking for, they read your blog and see the magic!

Note that Google is constantly changing their algorithms to determine what’s important to their index of search engine positioning. In all the accounts and even their own admissions they employ very complicated combinations of elements to determine the relevance of pages.

My likely flawed attempt to simplify the Google algorithm is that basically the more hits you have, it is more useful your webpages are. The more back links you have makes Google think that your page is an authority on the keywords you are using. Google will then try to present the page as an answer to any query that you can match. Google believes that your website will better meet the query of the searcher. The result is that you get more hits.

In the event that you can do nothing more except include the primary keywords into the title of your articles they are very important, and in the main text body of your page then you’re already halfway there. Remember that large companies employ consultants from search engines to make the most of this type of thing, so do the best you can here.

3. Engage with other bloggers

This is my first post on ranting. I’ve found that on the whole most political bloggers don’t connect to me in a hurry. I selected a set of hyperlinks on the right , which I actually read rather than spreading random links all over the place. Many of the blogs I’ve read in the Political sector have lots of links. A link in there to your blog is good but usually it’s not seen in the midst of the hordes. However, it’s still beneficial to get in touch with each blog and request the link. I would like to mention that a few of the blogs I contacted were very good and linked to me straight away. Around 20%. Also, just like sales it’s the game of numbers.

You should solicit links most likely once your site has been actively maintained for about 10 weeks or so. It is likely that the new blogger with an overinflated sense of self because they’re “established”, will want to know if you have a reasonable blog before linking. For fairness, to established blogs, lots of blogs disappear. You need to show you’re committed to the long-term. If they decide to revisit your blog, they will most likely place a link to you on their site. Some bloggers even make a small announcement about your blog in their posts which encourage viewers to visit. You should write a small blog post to thank them for this it can strengthen the link and help make the link-friend more positive about you.

I’ve observed a general aloofness in people when discussing hyperlinks. Certain people are very protective of their status when linking to another person, even though it’s not really a matter of importance on their blogs. I start off by linking to everyone but over time I delete links that don’t respond to my emails or just have the Industry set of links available on their site. Bloggers who are new should be encouraged and a link costs nothing. Also, don’t ever pay for a link unless you have a commercial need to pay for it.

A simple email asking for an image with your display name and url should be enough. Offering reciprocal links will not help you to begin with. Most blogs you’d like to link with are more established and they will recognize that your link is much more valuable to you and it is the other way around. Better to state “I have already linked to you and would like you to consider linking to me if my blog fits your criteria”.

You can always remove the link later when you are not receiving an acceptable response. If your blog goes nuclear and becomes one of “the” blogs to read in your particular field, hyperlinks will be everywhere Don’t fret whether bloggers like your initial approach. You may also be slightly hesitant to be contacted regularly by new bloggers seeking to establish themselves.

4. Blog Directories

There are tons of blog directories that you can include your website in and adding your site to them is a smart idea. I am unsure just the effectiveness of these directories, but you could certainly do better than have your link in there as the search engines are aware of the link. I am always concerned that everyone adds their link assuming others search the directory site however, many simply add their link and carry on with other things. If you do add your link, using the brute force method helps. Include your blog on Technorati, Bloggerama, and the most important thing is to add any niche-specific directories that your blog could have a huge chance of getting coverage.

There is a chance to gain a lot of new readers by doing something like this and often the thing that takes your blog to the 100 – 500 page views per day is a ringing endorsement by an award-winning website or a major site of authority. If it were that simple, for every blog to be successful, it would attract many visitors, and they do not but as I have said many times, in time you’ll start to be noticed.

5. Write Interesting Posts

Sorry to say that you have to ensure that you write good and interesting articles that are engaging for the reader. I like a mix of quick, short posts as opposed to longer and more deliberate posts. In terms of regularity I believe that one post everyday should be enough and one post every three days. The readers will not be a problem posting even every week if the quality is acceptable however, having a audience that expects daily updates and then blogging once a week can lower the quality of your blog.

Decide a post frequency beginning from the start based on what you are able to (be honest) create and then stick to it. Your readers visit your blog as they want to see what you’re writing about so don’t provide them with a reason not return. Many blogs start with a bang then fade to nil, which frustrates readers. If you wish to have their regular success, you need to make sure you are doing your part.
